Donn Paul DeYoung Sr, age 78, of Grand Haven passed away Mon, Mar 27, 2006, at home with his family. Born Mar 20, 1928, to Jack and Dorothy (Wilbur) De Young in Grand Rapids, he married Angenieta Van Tol on Sep 8, 1949, in Grand Haven.
Donn earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan in 1950. He was the president of Dake Corporation at the time of his retirement in 1986. Mr. De Young was a member of Second Reformed Church, past president of the Rotary Club of Grand Haven, and was active with Junior Achievement. Donn had been chairman of the Grand Haven City Planning Commission; past president and recipient of a lifetime achievement award from the Committee for Economic Development; and past chairman of the North Ottawa Community Hospital Board. He was a member of the North Ottawa Rod and Gun Club and helped raise funds for the YMCA.
Survivors include his wife of over 56 years, Angenieta; daughter, De Layne De Young of Elkhart, IN; three sons, Donn (Sara) De Young Jr of Apex, NC; Derk (Barbara) De Young of Marietta, GA; David (Janet) De Young of Grand Haven; 12 grandchildren; his sister, De Layne Rogers of Asheville, NC and sister in law, Nellie Jacobson of Anacortes, WA; two brothers in law, Al (Marlene) DeWitt of Ferrysburg and Paul (Effie) Van Tol of Grand Haven; and his aunt Janet Boer of Grand Haven. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Douglas.
