Donald Rex Alspaugh, 86, of Alden, died September 23, 2018 at his home. He was born March 19, 1932 in Berrien Springs, MI, to Ellsworth and Viola (Shippy) Alspaugh.
In 1952 he proudly joined the Marine Corp serving in Korea during the Korean War. After he was honorably discharged in 1954 he met and married the love of his life, Carol Louise Kendall, on May 28, 1955.
Don was a carpenter and wood turner who loved his career and was fascinated with wood and let it determine the shape of his turnings. An avid reader he could sniff out a book sale and read 2-3 books a week. He loved living out in the sticks and considered the woods full of critters his sanctuary.
Don is survived by his son Rex Allen (Sharon) Alspaugh, daughter Pamela (Alspaugh) Linderleaf, son, Alec Donald Alspaugh, sister Gayle Alspaugh, brothers Vernon and Wesley Alspaugh, five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol in 2014, his parents Ellsworth and Viola, and brother Roger Alspaugh.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 29th in the Helena Township Community Center, Alden at 1:00 PM.
