Wheatley, Donald L., 85, of Wheeling, W. Va., passed away on Wednesday, April 1, 2009 at Wheeling Hospital.
He was born in Wheeling, W.Va., on February 23, 1924, son of the late Paul and Mary Louise Wheatley.
He was also preceded in death by his brother Paul.
Donald was retired from Columbia Gas of Ohio. He was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran, and a member of the Warwood Veterans Association.
Donald was a graduate of Wheeling Central Catholic High School, attended West Liberty State College, and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elm Grove.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Clara Flaherty Wheatley, his six daughters, Dr. Paula Flaherty and her husband Thomas of Charleston, W.Va.; Mariclaire Stancoven of Wheeling; Dawn Bonenberger and her husband Thomas of Charleston, W.Va.; Erin Fonner and her husband, Terry of Wheeling; Colleen Konyak and her husband, Joseph of Ellwood City, PA; and Arlene Hutchinson and her husband, Scott of Perryopolis, PA.
Mr. Wheatley is also survived by his nine grandchildren, Ian Flaherty and his fiancée, Joan Vollero of Brooklyn, NY; Shannon Bonenberger and her fiancée, Jon Curiak of Columbus, Ohio; Colin Flaherty and his wife Elizabeth of Dublin, Ohio; Ryan Fonner, Adam Bonenberger, Evan Fonner, Christopher Stancoven of Wheeling, W.Va.; Abigail and Kyle Konyak of Ellwood City, PA.
He was also blessed with a great-grandchild, Jackson Flaherty.
