Donald J. Lanphear, 70, of Kalkaska, died Thu, Dec 28, 1995, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Mr. Lanphear moved to Kalkaska County eight years ago following his retirement from the Kalamazoo County Sheriff's Department. He had formerly served with the Kalamazoo City and Portage Police Departments. A U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII, he was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and the Kalamazoo County Mounted Division. He had worked as the sexton of Lodi Cemetery, and enjoyed fishing and muzzle loaders. Mr. Lanphear was born in Kalamazoo County on Jul 1, 1925, to Cecil and Mildred Lamreaux Lanphear. On May 17, 1958, in Comstock, he married Roberta Born who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Timothy of Kalkaska and Thomas of Hickory Corners; one daughter, Beth Hurlbut of Kalkaska; one sister, Carolyn Callaway of Gobles; and seven grandchildren, Felicia Hurlbut, Jennifer Lanphear, Amanda Lanphear, Stephanie Lanphear, Robert Lanphear, and Don and Ron Peacock.
One sister, Phyllis Livingston and one brother, Fred Lanphear, preceded hi in death.
Funeral services were held Sun, Dec 31, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Rev. William McQueen officiated. Cremation followed the service.
