Donald H Soper, 91, passed away on Jul 19, 2010 in Kalkaska. He was born on Sep 13, 1918 in Kalkaska, the son of the late Seymour and Nellie (Lewis) Soper.
Don was a veteran serving our country during WWII in the US Army where he received two Bronze Stars. After the war was over, Don began working for Ford and there he met his future wife, Eva Morgan. They were married on Jun 2, 1948 in Plymouth.
Later Don worked and retired from the Wayne County Road Commission as a heavy equipment operator. Don and Eva built their retirement home and moved to Kalkaska in 1977.
Don enjoyed being around his family. His hobbies included hunting, snowmobiling, gardening, watching birds, all nature and an occasional bear. He hunted his last deer when he turned 89, loved patrolling "the property" on his four-wheeler, visiting with the neighbors and having breakfast every morning in town.
Don enjoyed attending the Kalkaska Church of the Nazarene and was a member of the VFW Mayflower Post 6695 in Plymouth.
Surviving Don are his many nieces and nephews including, Terry and Janet Sieting, Willodean Golden, Roberta Woodhams and Percy Angel, all of Kalkaska; and many friends.
Preceding Don in death was his beloved Eva in 1995; and his siblings, Clare, Clifford, Lawrence, Minerva, Alva, Margaret, Eunice, Nellie, Harriet, and Niles.
Visitation will be held on Wed, Jul 21 from 6 to 9 pm. The funeral service will be on Thu at 11 am at the funeral home with Pastor Bryan McInerney of the Kalkaska Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
