Devora Joan Sewell, 88, of Vernon, passed away at her home on Mon, Nov 9, 2020. A private family funeral service will be held at Watkins Brothers Funeral Homes, Jennings-Lyons Chapel, burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Fri, Nov 13, 2020 from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm.
Devora was born on Mar 23, 1932 in Owosso, MI to the late Rolland Archie and Vera Waneta (McKinney) Kirby. She attended Owosso Schools and on Jun 3, 1949 she married Ira J Sewell in Owosso, and together they raised five children. Devora was active in her community, she was a Den mother for Boy Scouts, served on the Girls Scouts committee as a trustee, sold Avon, she was a member of the Vernon United Methodist Church, and she retired from the Lakeview Estates Laundromat. Shel oved ballroom dancing, she was the past president of Durand Locomotion’s Square Dance Club, a member of TOPS, and also was a Red Hat member of the Durand Choo Choo Chicks.
Devora is survived by her children, Ira (Bonnie) Sewell, Lawrence (Carla) Sewell, and Cynthia Nichols. Her 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 8 step great grandchildren, and 13 step great-great grandchildren, and her brother Harley “Buck” (Patricia) Kirby.
Devora was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Ira, her daughters, Stephney Canute and Vickey Joan Sewell. Her siblings: Laureta Nye, Joyce Deem, Rolland Kirby.
