Preparing for its third war Christmas, the Croswell community was shocked Wed by news of the death of its second young man to lose his life in combat for his country. A telegram from the Department of War notified Mrs. Delbert Farley that her young husband died in action in Italy on Dec 2.
Private Delbert Farley was serving in the 133rd Infantry Division of General Clark's Fifth Army. He entered the service Mar 23, 1943. He was 21 years old in Oct.
In addition to his wife, formerly Miss Norma Rexford, he is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Farley, and one sister, Mrs. Donald H Leach, of Croswell.
He was a member of the Croswell High School graduating class of 1941. For eight months previous to entering the Army, he was employed by th eAustin Company in the construction of the new Dow Chemical Company plant at Marysville. Previous to that time he assisted his father in the gasoline business here. He was married to Miss Norma Rexford, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Rexford of Croswell, on Nov 14, 1942.
In high school he was active in all forms of athletics and other school activities. A kindly young man with a ready smile and helpful manner, he was one of Croswell's most popular youths, and his death is a sad blow to the entire community.
