DeLayne DeYoung Rogers of Asheville passed way Sep 4, 2018 after a brief period of declining health. Mrs. Rogers was born Oct 22, 1930, in Grand Rapids, MI. She was a graduate of the Cranbrook School and attended Michigan State University. DeLayne was the daughter of the late Jack and Dorothy DeYoung. She was also preceded in death by her former husband, Forrest Samuel Rogers, and by her son, Jack Keith Rogers. She is survived by sons Rick and his wife Kathy of Brighton, MI, and Bruce and his wife Laura of Charlotte NC. In addition, she is survived by three granddaughters and two great grandchildren, whom she dearly loved: Jane Whaley Rogers of New York City (daughter of Jack and his former wife, Ferebee Ruffalo), Patricia and Elizabeth (daughters of Bruce & Laura), as well as Elizabeth’s husband Jonathan and their children, James and Carly, all of Charlotte. DeLayne worked as a professional designer, weaver, and painter. Her woven and painted items were featured in several local galleries. Dee was also an avid gardener. She was a member and past president of the Asheville Women’s Civic Club. She possessed an energetic, inquiring mind and loved to learn about the world around her, particularly in areas related to design and the arts. She will be greatly missed by her family and by the friends who enjoyed her company. The family would like to express their gratitude to DeLayne’s kind friend and caregiver, Debbie Jennings. The family will gather for a private remembrance of Dee.
