David W. Stremlow, of Kingsley, died unexpectedly at home August 7, 2011. David was born Jul 20, 1930, in Fife Lake Township, to the late Walter Stremlow and Margaret (Perry) Stuck.
After graduating from Fife Lake High School in 1948, he married his high school sweetheart, Irene (Newmarch) Stremlow, on Apr 28, 1950.
David was a GMC employee and retired from the Buick Motor Division of Flint after 31 years. He retired in 1981 and continued to be active with the UAW Retirees Group from Traverse City, where he served for several years as an officer when they built their new building.
He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War.
He also was Commander of the Legion Post 219 of Fife Lake for several years. He served as State Secretary in Lansing for the AARP also for about 10 years, was Supervisor of Fife Lake Township and served on many different boards in Grand Traverse County.
He and his wife traveled and enjoyed trips to Europe, Australia, Alaska, Hawaii, and the Caribbean. They truly enjoyed the 50th anniversary cruise to Mexico.
David is survived by his wife of 61 years and their nine wonderful children, David (Dorthy) Stremlow, Jerry (Carol) Stremlow, Linda Glaesmer, Carol (Robert) Hellon, and Nancy (Peter) Bostwick, all of Traverse City, Mike (Carla) Stremlow, of Coleman, Ron Stremlow, Bonnie Roop, and Sue (Larry) Bodjack, all of Kingsley. He was the proud grandpa of 28 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and one on the way. He also has a great great granddaughter Evelyn. Dave was proud and often spoke of what great kids they were.
Visitation for Dave will be today, August 10, 2011 from 5 to 8 pm, at Kalkaska Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Thu, August 11, 2011 with final visitation beginning at 10 am until the time of service, at Kalkaska Funeral Home. Pastor Jason Grimm will be officiating. Burial will take place immediately following at Kingsley Evergreen Cemetery.
