David Lee Hannon, 71, passed away on Nov 18, 2003, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center-Long Term Care.
He was born on Sep 4, 1932, in Fort Wayne, IN, to Orrel R and Mamie (Blackburne) Hannon.
David owned and operated Hannon Standard Service Station: Bus Depot & Coin & Rock Shop on the corner of Cedar and Dresden for 11 years, where he provided a sucker and a joke to all who came. He did construction work for Freedom park, Rugg Pond, and Burger King. He was a veteran of the Korean War and served on the USS Los Angeles.
As a young man, he was a teacher and performer of roller-skating. He enjoyed bowling, photography, radio, playing cards, and camping. He played the guitar, harmonica, and the bongos and also volunteered at school with rock polishing kits. He loved his children and grandchildren and was nicknamed "Papa."
Mr. Hannon is survived by his loving family, including children, David W (Denise) Hannon, Renee L (Tom) Carey of Cadillac, Dennis B (Colette) Hannon, Kathy L (Jeff) Gelinas; cousin, Tina (Jim) Donnelly; 17 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews; sister, Sharon Patricia Kooken; and brother, Stanford Wayne Hannon.
Mr. Hannon was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Karen Lynn Hannon, with whom he renewed his wedding vows on May 11, 1965; and his brothers, Ronald Paul Hannon and John Norman Hannon.
A graveside memorial service was held on Sat, Nov 22, at Evergreen Cemetery. Pastor Steve Brower officiated and military honors were provided by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.
