D. Lorena "Renie: Barber, 71, of Rapid City, died Thu, Mar 30, 2000, at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City.
Mrs. Barber had been a lifelong resident of the area and for 33 years worked as a paraprofessional for the Rapid City and Kalkaska public schools. She also worked as office manager for Do-All Construction. She was a member of the Rapid City Church of Christ, where she served as a member of the church board. In 1987, she was the recipient of the Michigan 150 First Lady Award for Kalkaska County. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, her family, and serving as "mother" to many children besides her family.
She was born in Mancelona on Apr 13, 1928, the daughter of Everett and Isa Tipton Dalton. On Oct 18, 1946, in Grand Rapids, she was united in marriage with Barney Barber, who survives.
Besides her husband, she is survived by son Tony (Sharon) Barber of Rapid City; daughters Dianne (Harold) Gentry of Rapid City, Marsha (Charles) Barber-Clark of Bellaire, and Terri (Matthew) Franzen of Grosse Pointe Park; brothers Theodore Dalton of Rapid City, Russell Dalton of Muskegon and William Dalton of Mancelona; sister Elaine Pressey of Grand Haven and seven grandchildren.
Brother Donald preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Apr 3 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska; Jerry Rupe officiated. Burial was in Clearwater Township Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
