Claude L Byrd, 69, of Rapid City, died Sat, Jan 27, 2001, at Munson Medical Center.
Mr. Byrd resided in Stewart, MS until 1993, when he moved to Kalkaska County. A retired welder, he was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 714 in Columbus, MS. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge.
Mr. Byrd was born in Eupora, MS on Feb 8, 1931, son of the late William and Vera (Sturdivant) Byrd. He married Peggy Bailey in Madison County, AL on Aug 18, 1970. She survives.
In addition ot his wife, he is survived by sons Farris Byrd of Houston, TX, and Claude A Byrd of Stewart; daughters Cyndi Braswell of Stewart, Lisa Pritchard of Mathison, MS, Delma Stafford of Eupora, Joan Allen of Mancelona, and Angela Byrd of Traverse City; brothers, Henry and John Byrd, both of Stewart; sister, Oklys Orr of Grenada, MS; 13 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
Brother, Farris, sister Emma Rea Hall, and granddaughter Misty Diane Pritchard preceded him in death.
Funeral services were Jan 31 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska; Pastor Brent Bontrager officiated. Burial was in Grand Traverse Memorial Gardens in Traverse City.
