Claude A "Lum" Lumbert Sr., 83, of Sunfield, formerly of Kalkaska, died Apr 2, 2004, at a Lansing hospital.
Mr. Lumbert was born Jun 1, 1920 in Detroit, a son of Claude J and Gladia (Sayers) Lumbert. He was an army veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. Before moving to Sunfield a few years ago, Mr. Lumbert was a resident of Kalkaska for 40 years, where he was well known for setting up and maintaining ball diamonds and as an avid girl's baseball enthusiast. He was a member of Sunfield United Methodist Church, VFW, Kalkaska American Legion, and a former member of Garfield Country United Methodist Church.
Surviving are sons, Thomas (Elizabeth) Lumbert and Charles (Marilyn) Lumbert, both of Eaton Rapids, and Claude A (Kathie) Lumbert Jr of Lansing; eight grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his long time companion and friend, Rita Jo Ward.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 am Sat, Apr 17, at Sunfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Brian Sheen officiating. Military honors will follow at East Sebewa Cemetery.
