Christian "Bill" William Anderson, 77, of Traverse City, passed away on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at the Grand Traverse Pavilions. He was born on March 7, 1935 in Traverse City, to the late Daryl and Emma (Lichty) Anderson. Bill was raised on a farm near Huellmalel Lake, and attended Howard School, a small one room school nearby. He grew up working on the family farm and learned to become a hard working individual that carried on through his life. Bill also lived in Williamsburg for many years. He worked for the City of Traverse City, Park Department for 22 years; mowing, painting picnic tables, planting flowers, snow removal, and icing various skating rinks around town. He was fondly known as the "Ice Man". There were many pictures in the Record Eagle showing him doing various jobs around the city. He enjoyed cars; detailing, repairing, and anything else he could do for his many car lot friends and owners. He also enjoyed church, dancing, singing, and family. Bill also had a small business after he retired, "Old Grampa Bill" Yard Maintenance. He was excited about this venture and enjoyed doing it. He helped build and perform maintenance for various churches in Traverse City; including Fellowship Church CRC, Mt. Zion Family Worship Center, and Greater Apostolic Church. He has been attending the Salvation Army Church. When he prayed for people, they were healed and prayer was answered. Even though his Parkinson's tried to get him down, he always had a ready smile, hug, and prayer for everyone. He loved and was loved by many; including his wife Janet (Strahan) of Traverse City, daughters: Joy Plachetka of Cadillac, Tina Rokos of Petoskey; sons: Tony William Davis of Garden City, and Michael W. Anderson; brothers: Jack (Marge), Larry "Bud", Ken (Judy), Lawrence (Margaret) and Daryl Jr. (Sue) Anderson; and sisters: Arlene (Richard) Hall, Lucille (Duane) Conley, Margaret Deveneau, Ruth (Ron) Coyne, Caryl (Wayne) Stites, and Karon Anderson. Preceding him in death were his parents and his siblings James Anderson and Shirley (Haining) Anderson. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, October 20, 2012 at the Salvation Army Church (Barlow St. and Boon St.). Arrangements have been entrusted with Kalkaska Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
