Chester Leroy VanAmburg, of Kalkaska, passed away peacefully on Sun, Aug 20, 2006 at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center, LTC. 

Born on Nov 30, 1921, in South Boardman, he was the son of the late James and Jenette (Hogerheide) VanAmburg. 

Chet was a veteran, serving our country during WWII in the US Navy. 

He married Margaret Fletcher-Jenkins on Aug 22, 1950, in Orland, IN. Chet retired from Kroger's after working for 30 years and then worked an additional 11 years for Giant Supermarket in Traverse City. 

A lifelong resident of Kalkaska, Chet was a member of the VFW Post No 8684, Beebe Sherwood Post No 480 and the DAV. 

Margaret and Chet spent a lot of time at the local VFW Post working and enjoying their friends and family. 

Surviving Chet are his children, Alice J VanAmburg Sherriff of Lake City, Edward J (Barb) VanAmburg of Afton, TN, Marie A (Jerry) Cherwinski of Gaylord, and Jenette K VanAmburg of Thompsonville; six grandchildren, four great grandchildren; and his brothers, Orin (Dorothy) VanAmburg of Kalkaska, Jack (Nancy) VanAmburg of Orange City, FL, and Gordon (Judy) VanAmburg of Whitmore Lake. 

Preceding Chet in death was his dear wife, Margaret; his daughter, Barbara Jo VanAmburg; his grandson, Jamie Sherriff; sisters and brothers, Martha C, Marie, Paulina, Martin, and Almer James. 

The funeral service will be held on Wed, Aug 23 at 11 am at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Military honors will be provided by the VFW Post No 8684 and the Beebe Sherwood Post No 480. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery.
