Charles Edmund Manning, 86, of Crossett, died Thu, Dec 7, 2006, at his residence. Born on Mar 18, 1920, to Edmund and Anna Dorsey Manning in Honor, MI, Mr. Manning was an Air Force veteran, serving in the CBI Theater in WWII, and was a retired brick mason. He was raised as a Catholic. Mr. Manning was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Elizabeth Burton.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Emma Zelle Gulledge Manning of Crossett; two daughters, Carmen and husband Buddy Porta and Carol and husband Pete Newton, all of Baton Rouge, LA; two grandchildren, Greyson Manning Newton and Garrett Charles Newton; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were at 11 am on Mon, Dec 11, in the First Baptist Church with Bros. Jeff Smart and Don Justice officiating. Burial followed at Pinewood Memorial Park under the direction of Jones Funeral Home of Crossett.
Pallbearers were Wayne Moffatt, Bill Phillips, Sercy Thomas, Rex Dodson, Jim Pettit, and Larry Morrow. Honorary pallbearers were William Coleman, pat Cook, Robert Malloy, Robert Lane, Bob Roberts, Palmer Boast, John Mount and Jimmie Johnson.
