Charles D. Flatter, 65, a lifelong resident of Blackford County, died Saturday in Veterans Administration Hospital, Indianapolis, following an extended illness. A son, Paul M. Flatter, lives in Dunkirk.
Mr. Flatter worked for The Overhead Door Co, retiring in 1985 after 37 years. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans, Dunkirk American Legion Post, and Gas City Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was an Army Veteran of WWII.
Also surviving are his former wife, Ruth E. Slentz Flatter; a son, Stephen R. Flatter, Owosso, MI; three daughters, Barbara A. Otto, Corunna, MI, Sandra Bartholomew, Owosso, MI and Charlene E. Stewart, Mount Morris, MI; his stepmother, Dorothy Wall, Warren; a brother, Richard M. Flatter, Hartford City; a sister Elizabeth Fannon, Miami, FL; a half-sister, DeNelda Mugouan, Hollywood, FL; a stepsister, Jueldine Pennington, Silver Lake; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be at 10 am Tuesday in Keplinger Funeral Home, Burial will be in Hartford City Cemetery.
Calling is 3 to 5 and 6 to 9 pm today at the funeral home.
