Charles Beeman, aged 91, of Empire Township, died at the home of his son near Empire, with whom he has lived since the death of Mrs. Beeman about two years ago. He is believed to have been the oldest and last living Civil ware veteran of Leelanau County. Death came to the veteran last Fri, Dec 22, 1939.
Mr. Beeman has long been a resident of Leelanau county, farming for many years in East Empire.
When Mr. Beeman was only sixteen years of age he joined the Union Army, Company K, 85th Regiment of Ohio.
Surviving are two sons, Charles and Walter both of Empire Township.
Funeral services were held in Empire M.E. Church Sun, Dec 24, with Rev. Wirth Tenant officiating. He was buried with full military honors, with the American Legion in charge. Burial was made in Greenbriar Cemetery, Benzie County.
