Carolyn Y Carll, 79, passed away at 5:35 am Jan 16, 2008 in Blackford Community Hospital. She was born Jun 10, 1928 in Grant County, the daughter of famous Indiana poet, minister, educator, and radio host, Barton Rees Pogue and his wife, Maude Z. Jackson Pogue. She was raised in Upland, graduating from Jefferson Township High School in 1946 and had attended Indiana University Business School and Muncie Business College. Carolyn married Charles Carll on Apr 17, 1947 in Hartford City. They had resided in Upland for several years, moving to Hartford City in 1990. For the past 20 years they spent the winters in Alabama and Florida.
A bookkeeper, Mrs. Carll had worked for the Upland Manufacturing Company, the town of Upland in the clerk-treasurer’s office, and Taylor University Print Shop.
Mrs. Carll was a member of St John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Hartford City and the Decca Club, Upland.
Survivors include her husband Charles, a daughter Kim (James) Puckett, Anthem, AZ and a grandson, Silas Barton Carll-Puckett, Anthem, AZ.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Dave Newton at 11 am Sat, Jan 19, 2008 in St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 209 S. Spring St, Hartford City. There will be no calling hours as cremation will take place.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Waters Funeral Home, 501 W. Washington St., Hartford City.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Blackford Animal Shelter of in the form of masses.
