At the home of Mrs. Anna Loso, Lincoln, Kansas, May 1, 1904. Mrs. Byre Jane Jeffers, aged almost 60 years. She was born in New York, July 18, 1844. Her maiden name was Heller. She quite early in life became a Christian and joined the Methodist church. In 1863 she married George Henry Jeffers, and moved to Michigan in 1854, and to Kansas in 1878. For 25 years she was a resident of Kansas; one year in Saline county; five and one-half years in the southeast part of Lincoln county, on homestead ;3 years in Ellsworth; 15 years at Colvert and one and one-half years in Lincoln. Her two sons, Ervin and Vern survive her and have families of their own.
The funeral services in Lincoln were conducted at the home by Revs, Sutton and Holter – then the funeral procession formed and took her body to her old home neighborhood, at Colbert. Many gathered at the church – Rev. Sutton led in prayer and Rev. Bradbury, her old minister, chose for his text: 1-Thes. 4:13-14 “If we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them that sleep in Jesus will God bring with Him.” The songs were cheerful – people loved her for her kind and contented ways. In the store and postoffice at Colvert she made many friends. The body was laid at rest in the Hammer cemetery.
