Burr L. Brothers, 78, of Kalkaska, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 18, 2003. He passed away quietly at his home surrounded by his family.
Burr was born Nov. 16, 1924, the son of Harry and Cora (Jourdan) Brothers in Kalkaska.
Burr was a lifelong resident of Kalkaska. He was a graduate of Kalkaska High School. He proudly served in the Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Columbia CL 56 in the South Pacific. He and his father owned and operated Kalkaska Feed and Supply for many years. He then worked as clerk of the Kalkaska County Road Commission and later managed Level Acres Non-Profit Housing Corp. of Kalkaska.
He was a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be greatly missed.
Surviving Burr are his wife of 61 years Barbara (Babcock); and two daughters Barrie (Ron) Cross of Kalkaska and Bonnie (Michael) Ward of Traverse City; grandchildren Bradley Ward of Wyoming and Jennifer (David) Griffis of Fremont, Ind.; and great-grand daughters Cassie, Chelsea and Caitlyn. Also surviving are brothers and sisters: Cleo Scott of Yucca Valley, Calif., Vivian Colsell and her son Jack (Ruth) Colsell of LaMesa, Calif., William (Phyllis) Brothers of Escondido, Calif., and Harry (Shirley) Brothers of Arizona City, Ariz.; and brother-in-law Lowell (Alice) Babcock of Kalkaska; and many much loved nieces and nephews and friends.
The date and time of a planned memorial service will be announced in the spring.
Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be given on behalf of Burr to Munson Hospice of Traverse City.
