Burl D "Mac" McLean, 82, of Kalkaska passed away on Oct 13, 2003, at his home.
He was born on Jan 27, 1921, in Kalkaska, the son of James and Gertrude Baker McLean.
Mac married Nina E Outman on Jan 7, 1942, in Boston, MA. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving our country during WWII. Mac was stationed on the USS Emmons which sank on Apr 6, 1945, near Okinawa. The USS Emmons was the first ship to fire a shot and the first ship to be shot at in the Normandy invasion.
Mac owned and operated Mac's Barber Shop for 25 years and retired in 1982. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed woodworking. He also enjoyed his family; especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of Kalkaska VFW Post 8684.
Mac is survived by Nina, his wife of 61 years; sons, Gene B (Doris) McLean and Robert J (Victoria) McLean, all of Kalkaska; grandchildren, Jim (Laura) McLean, Julie McLean, Judie Ann (Bernie) Jacobson and Jodie (Jack) Disbrown all of Kalkaska, Jason (Heather) McLean of Grayling and Stephanie (Matt) Lackey of Coldwater; and five great grandchildren.
Mac was preceded in death by his daughter, Lynn Joan McLean, in Sep 1946; as well as a brother and five sisters.
A funeral service was held Thu, Oct 16, with the Rev. Ted Turanski officiating. The Kalkaska VFW Post 8684 provided military honors. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
