Bruce Michael Merry, age 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Jan 21, 2024, at St. Rita’s Medical Center in Lima, OH after a short battle with cancer. Bruce was born on Dec 16, 1944, in Lima, OH his parents Goldie and Robert Osmond preceded him in death.
Bruce was united in marriage to the love of his life, Joyce Merry on Aug 24, 1968. Joyce preceded him in death on Feb 9, 2014. Bruce was a proud graduate of The Ohio State University. He dedicated his career to civil engineering, working 42 years as a Construction Engineer for the Ohio Department of Transportation. Even in retirement, he remained active by consulting for Kohli & Kaliher Associates, Inc. and serving on multiple Construction Dispute Resolution Boards to support Ohio road construction projects.
A devoted father and grandfather, Bruce enjoyed golfing, watching sports, and visiting with his sins, Rob and Travis. He took great pride in his five grandchildren, Alex, Lauren, and Ian Merry of Sheboygan, WI and Paige and Chloe Merry of Knoxville, TN. He was their biggest fan and loved cheering them on at competitions and sporting events. He enjoyed passing down his love for the Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes to each of them. He will leave behind a legacy of integrity, kindness to all, and selflessness that will live on through the lives of his children and grandchildren.
Bruce is survived by his two sons, Robert (Erin) Merry of Sheboygan, WI and Travis (Angie) Merry of Knoxville, TN. He is further survived by his brothers in law and sisters in law: William and Linda Heckman, Vicki and Terry Selby, and Bill Glaze.
In addition, he is preceded in death by his parents in law, William and June Heckman and sister in law, Karen Glaze.
On Feb 2nd the family will receive friends at the Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima, OH from noon to 2pm. The funeral will take place at 2 pm followed by a private family interment at Gethsemani Cemetery in Lima, OH.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Lima Central Catholic High School.
