Bob Hahnenberg, 70, of Kalkaska died Jan 15, 2002 at Munson Medical Center in Traverse City. He was born Mar 13, 1931, in Lake Leelanau to Joseph and Ruth (Thorsen) Hahnenberg.
Bob was a veteran of the US Army. He married Joyce LaForest Aug 29, 1953, in Traverse City. Bob graduated from St Mary's High School in Lake Leelanau. He attended Central Michigan University and received his bachelor's degree in 1953 and his master's degree in 1960.
Bob and Joyce moved from Weidman to Kalkaska in 1958. He was a teacher at Kalkaska High School for 13 years teaching social studies, history and physical education. He coached basketball, baseball, football and track.
After retiring he continued as a substitute teacher for an additional three years.
He was an avid golfer and was also co owner of Hahnenberg Moving and Storage.
Bob is survived by his wife of 49 years, Joyce; children, Robert J (Deborah Stahl) Hahnenberg Jr of Williamsburg, Michael Leo (Cammy) Hahnenberg of Traverse City, Keven James Hahnenberg of Traverse City; his brother Jack (Arlene) Hahnenberg and sister Dorothy (Gordon) Charles all of Traverse City; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Ronald Lee Hahnenberg.
Visitation was held Jan 5, with a Memorial Mass following at St Mary of the Woods Catholic Church in Kalkaska. Father R Dale Magoon officated.
Memorials may be made in behalf of Bob Hahnenberg to Hospice of Northern Michigan, St Mary of the Woods, or the American Cancer Socity.
