Betty J. Mathews, 62, of Harrison passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Mid Michigan Medical Center- Gladwin. Betty was born February 25, 1947 in Gladwin, the daughter of Carl and Loretta (Foote) Beebe. Betty was united in marriage to Mr. Robert s. Mathews on July 11, 1964 in Gladwin. Mrs. Mathews was a lifelong resident of Harrison. Betty worked many years as a playground aide at Amble Elementary School of Harrison. Mrs. Mathews enjoyed crafting, pottery, gardening, sewing, crocheting, basket weaving, cake decorating, traveling, fishing trips to Canada, card making, visiting yard sales and caring for her grandchildren.
Surviving is her loving husband of forty five years, Robert S. Mathews of Harrison, two sons: Fred Mathews and wife Annette of Harrison and Rob Mathews also of Harrison, three daughters; Jane Johnson and husband William of Highland, Michigan, Sally Bohr and husband Lenny of Harrison and Tammy Wyse and husband Michael of Clare, her father, Carl Beebe and wife Diane of Forestville, Michigan, two borthers: David Beebe of Oklahoma and Carl “Jay” Beebe and wife Ruby of Harrison, one sister, Lois Anderson and husband Owen of Gladwin, seventeen grandchildren, one great-grandson, plus numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Mathews was preceded in death by her mother Loretta Beebe and one grandson, Eric Johnson.
A memorial dinner will be held Sunday, August 30, 2009 at 2pm from Skeels Northern Christian School, Gladwin.
