Mrs. Betty D. Smithingell, 72, of Kalkaska, died Mon, Nov 8, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. Smithingell resided in Boyne City until moving to Kalkaska in 1952. She enjoyed crocheting, watching birds, and reading.
She was born in Emmet County on Apr 21, 1927, the daughter of Amos and Ida Chingwa Shawa. On May 1, 1948, she was united in marriage in Petoskey with Wilford Smithingell, who preceded her in death on Jun 2, 1981.
Surviving are sons LeRoy (ginger) Smithingell of South Boardman and Robert (Judy) Smithingell of Kalkaska; brothers Benjamin of Grand Rapids, James of Wyoming, Steven of Escanaba, and Gary of Burt Lake; sisters Helen Kiogima of Harbor Springs and Doris Beaudin of Grand Rapids; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Brothers George and Norman, and great grandson Jonathan, preceded her in death.
Funeral services were Nov 12, at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska; Pastor Andrew Schmidt officiated. Burial was in Lodi Cemetery, Kalkaska County.
