Bette D. Hornbaker, 90, passed away at 5:40 pm Mon, Jan 13, 2014 at I.U. Health Blackford Community Hospital.
She was born in Jonesboro on Feb 28, 1923 to the late Gail Rodrick Adams and the late Ruby D. (McDaniels) Adams.
Bette graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1941.
She married Charles Robert Hornbaker “Bud” on Nov 8, 1942 in Covington, KY. He precedes her in death on Aug 9, 1986.
Bette retired from Blackford County School System in 1989, where she was a custodian at Blackford High School from 1973 until 1982 and then she was a teacher’s assistant at William Reed until 1989. She had formerly worked as a Home Health Care Aid and cleaned houses in the community.
She was a former board member of the Blackford Hospital Auxiliary, where she had served as the Vice President on the board. She had over 2000 plus hours of volunteer time for the auxiliary. She formerly worked at the Election Polls for years.
Bette was a member of Calvary Christian the Lighthouse Church in Hartford City.
She will be sadly missed by her daughters, Linda D. (husband, Paul) Garrett of Hartford City; Rita M. (husband, Jeff) Yeakle of Jonesboro; Kay E. Hornbaker (fiancé, Larry Bell) of Hartford City; grandchildren, John David Copas, Robert (wife, Zera) Garrett, Michael (wife, Christina) Garrett, Heather (husband, Clifton) Day; eleven great grandchildren; sister Norma Jean Rydel of FL; brothers, Rev Billy Dean (wife, Phyllis) Adams of Muncie; Paul James (wife, Becky) Adams of Muncie; several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; infant daughter, Connie A. Hornbaker; granddaughter, Heidi Owens; brothers, Gail Rodrick Adams and Earl Allen Adams.
Funeral service will be at 11am Fri, Jan 17, 2014 at Calvary Christian the Lighthouse Church, with Pastor Troy Kaufman of Calvary Christian Lighthouse Church and Pastor Steve High of Hartford City First Church of Nazarene officiating. Burial will follow in Hartford City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, January 16, 2014 and from 9-11 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2014 at Calvary Christian the Lighthouse Church.
