Beryle E. Ickes, 84, of Kalkaska passed away Mar 22, 2003, at Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care.
She was born Sep 16, 1918, in Decatur, the daughter of Floyd and Myrta (Richmond) Osborne.
Beryle married William Ickes on Oct 7, 1939, in Van Buren County. Beryle was a school teacher and taught for 20 years in the Benton Harbor School system. She retired from Mancelona Public School after another 20 years of service. She was a pioneer in teaching special education and started the first resource room in northern Michigan.
Beryle was a member of the Kalkaska Church of Christ and the Michigan Education Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William; grandchildren, David, Shannon, Mark and Charles Wilder; and her sister, Ruby Hanauer.
Beryle is survived by her children, Lee L Wilder of South Boardman, Kathy S Vladic (Jerry) Campbell of Columa and Richard W (Nancy) Ickes of Kalkaska and five grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Mar 24, 2003, at the Hamilton Township Cemetery in Decatur. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Kalkaska Memorial Health Center Long Term Care, 419 S Coral, Kalkaska, MI 49646.
