Bernadine Thomasy, 91, passed away on Feb 12, 2007 at Swan Creek Retirement Village, where she and her husband Charles have lived for the past seven years.
Bernadine was born Sept 26, 1915 to Harry and Carrie Lawrence of rural Sand Creek, MI. She graduated from Lyons High School and the Toledo Academy of Beauty and Culture. Bernadine owned a beauty shop for many years and also worked in retail sales while raising a family. She retired from F.W. Woolworth Company in 1977 and enjoyed many years of volunteer work and travel with Charles, her husband of 68 years. Generous and always smiling, Bernadine loved to help others. She was active in St. Charles Mercy Hospital Guild, St. Louis Helping Hands Soup Kitchen, Columiettes, St. Thomas Aquinas Altar Rosary Society, and several organizations that advocated for the developmentally disabled.
Bernadine will be sadly missed by her husband, Chalres; sons, Lawrence (Nene) Alexandria, VA, Kenneth (Bernadette) Maumee; daughter, Debra Thomasy, Toledo; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her sister, Vivian Beal, Rohnert Park, CA, and brother, James (Mary) Lawrence, Frostproof, FL.
Friends may visit at the Coyle Funeral Home, Fri, Feb 16, 2007, from 2 to 8pm where a Vigil Service will be held at 7pm. Funeral services will begin in the mortuary on Sat, Feb 17 at 1pm followed by a funeral Mass at St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church at 1:30pm. Interment, Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor Bernadine with a memorial are asked to consider either Northwest Ohio Developmental Center, St. Patrick of Heatherdowns Church, or St. Louis Helping Hands.
