Arthur E. Hansen, 96, of Kalkaska, died Jan 30, 1998, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Mr. Hansen moved to Kalkaska from Sand Lake in 1921. He worked for 36 years as a heavy equipment operator for the State Highway Department prior to his retirement in 1963. He was a member of the Danish Lutheran Church in Trufant, the Odd Fellow Lodge, and a Past Grand Patriarch of the Grand Encampment of Michigan.
Mr. Hansen was born at Sand Lake on Apr 21, 1901, to Neils and Laura Larsen Hansen. On Jul 2, 1923, in Kalkaska, he was united in marriage with Bertha Ames, who survives.
Besides his wife, he is survived by sons Winfield (Iris) Hansen of Kalkaska and Alfred Hansen of Lansing; daughter Dorothy Darke of Muskegon; daughter in law Suzie Hansen of Kalkaska; 11 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren. A son, John, preceded him in death.
Funeral services were held Feb 3 at the Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska. Rev. Charles Stanley officiated. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
A Grand Encampment Memorial Service was held at the funeral home Feb 2. Scott Leonard, Keith White, Arthur Henke, Thomas Bowen, Ty Hansen and Travis Hansen were pallbearers.
