Alvin Johnston, 86, of Rapid City, died Mon, Sep 4, 2000, at Meadow Brook Medical Care Facility in Bellaire.
Mr. Johnston was born in Mancelona on Nov 9, 1913, son of the late Jack and Abbie Mosellus Johnston. He married Ann Cobb on Dec 5, 1960, in Kalkaska. She died on Nov 7, 1986.
Mr. Johnston resided in Bellaire until 30 years ago when he moved to Rapid City. Prior to his retirement, Alvin had been employed in residential building. He had been affiliated with the Bellaire United Methodist Church, and enjoyed wildlife, woodworking and working in his shop.
Surviving are sons Alvin Johnston Jr of California and Richard (Sheryl) Johnston of Traverse City; daughter, Shirley A. (Claude) Brown of Benton Harbor; stepsons, James Curmi and Charles Curmi, both of Dearborn Heights; sister Ann Johnston of Mancelona; two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Son Melvin preceded him in death in 1942.
Funeral services were Sep 7 at Wolfe Funeral Home in Kalkaska; Pastor David Martin officiated. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska.
