Allen E "Allie" Cross, 73, of Kalkaska, passed away on Fri, Jun 16, 2006, at the Munson Medical Center in Traverse City after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on Mar 17, 1933, in Kalkaska, he was the son of the late Elmer and Cora (Morris) Cross.
Allie was a veteran of the US Army. He married Sharon Peck on Jan 31, 1970, in Kalkaska.
Allie retired from Kalkaska County as the animal control officer in 1995, after 23 years of service.
He had a love for farming, was very active in the Kalkaska community, and was a friend to many. Allie was a past baseball pitcher, with a 90 mph fastball. He also enjoyed bear hunting, bobcat hunting and loved the outdoors. Allie was a member of the Rapid City Church of Christ. He will be missed by his family and the community.
Surviving Allie is his loved wife, Sharon, of 36 years; daughter, Ann Renee (Jeff) Mitchell of Kalkaska; grandsons, Nicholas and Nolan Mitchell; and brother, Ronald (Barrie) Cross of Kalkaska.
Preceding Allie in death were his sisters, Phyllis Smith and Helen Walter.
Visitation was Jun 18 at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home in Kalkaska. The funeral service was on Mon, Jun 19, at the Kalkaska Church of Christ. Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery, with VFW Post 8684 and Beebe-Sherwood Post 480 providing military honors.
