Alfred G. Payne, 79, of Kalkaska, died Fri, Apr 11, 1997, at the Kalkaska Memorial Health Center.
Born in Ludington on Mar 18, 1918, he was the son of George and Etha May (Hall) Payne. On Aug 24, 1940, in Kalkaska, he married Virginia Raupe.
Mr. Payne had been a long-time resident of Kalkaska and was employed by Wayne Wire Cloth Products prior to his retirement. He served with the U.S. Navy during WWII, and was a former member of the Odd Fellow Lodge. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia; son Dennis Payne of Ovid; daughters, Gay Cairns of Kalkaska, and Sandra Payne of FL; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Evergreen Cemetery in Kalkaska. Rev. Paul Karges officiated.
