Albert C. “Jack” Slentz, 94, of Hartford City, died on Wed, Apr 11, 2012, at the IU Health Blackford Hospital, Hartford City.
He was born on Oct 9, 1917, to the late A. Ervin and Losie M (Vanhorn) Slentz in Blackford County. He graduated from Montpelier High School with the Class of 1935. After graduation he worked at Indiana Glass in Jay County.
He was a retired Blackford County farmer, dairyman, and school bus driver. He served on the Harrison Township Advisory Board, the Blackford County 4-H Fair Board and was a member of Gideons International. He was a member of Pleasantdale United Methodist Church where he served in various ministries. In recent years he attended Bethel Center Church of the Brethren.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Maxine (Wilson) Slentz, of Hartford City; two daughters, Sandra (James) Schwarzkopf, of Poneto, and Sally Case of Chapel Hill, NC; one son, Gregg (Nancy) Slentz, of Hartford City; three step sons, George (Judy) Wilson, of Port Charlotte, FL, Rex (Candee) Wilson of Vienne, VA, and Tony (Debra) Wilson of Hartford City; a step daughter, Susan (Mike) Willmann, of Hartford City; eight grandchildren; eight step grandchildren, six great grandchildren, 16 step great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Dorothy (James) Jones of Hartford City.
He was preceded in death by his parents, A Ervin and Losie M. (Vanhorn) Slentz, his first wife, Ruby (Williams) Slentz, his second wife, Esther (Werner) Slentz, a son Jack T. Slentz, two brothers, Arthur Slentz and Paul Slentz, and a sister, Vivian Quisenberry.
Friends are invited to visit with Mr. Slentz’s family at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home on Fri, Apr 13, 2012 from 2 to 5 and from 6 to 8 pm.
A celebration of life service will be at Walker & Glancy Funeral Home on Sat, Apr 14, 2012, at 10:30am with the Pastor Ellen Adney officiating. Interment will follow in the Hartford City Cemetery.
