Albert A. DeWitte, 96, of Traverse City and formerly of Fife Lake, passed away at Arbor House Assisted Living on Dec. 14, 2009.
He was born on March 18, 1913, in Detroit, the son of the late Julien and Albertine (DeBlauwe) DeWitte.
Albert married Margaret Loyson on Nov. 26, 1936, in Roseville.
He was employed by Michigan Central Railroad for 30 years when he retired. Albert enjoyed fishing and had a great love for his family. Albert was a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Aloysious Catholic Church. His church service was always very important, and he would serve as an usher and Eucharistic minister.
Surviving Albert are his children, Albert "John" (Lana) DeWitte of Harrisburg, N.C., Joseph J. (Lorraine) DeWitte of Atlanta, Ga., Margaret "Marge" Sabins of Traverse City and Mary Jane (Edward) Althaver of Howell, N.J.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Preceding Albert in death were his wife, Margaret; his siblings, Robert DeWitte and Julienne DeVos; and two grandsons, Joseph and William.
Visitation will be held today, Dec. 17, from 5 until 8 p.m., at Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be on Friday from 1 until 4 p.m. and 6 until 8 p.m., with the scripture service at 7 p.m., also at the funeral home.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Aloysious Catholic Church in Fife Lake. Memorials may be given to Father Fred Foundation, 826 Hastings, Traverse City, MI 49686; or Immaculate Conception Food Pantry, 205 N. Division, Traverse City, MI 49684.
